About the Club

Built on Tradition. Open to Everyone.

Aylesbury Kali was founded to bring authentic Filipino martial arts to Buckinghamshire — taught properly, in a welcoming environment, with all ego left at the door.

Our Story

How Aylesbury Kali Began

Aylesbury Kali grew out of a simple belief: that one of the world's most effective martial arts deserved a proper home in this part of the country. When the McLeod Academy closed its doors, we wanted to ensure that existing students had somewhere to continue their training — and that new students could still discover the art.

Aylesbury Kali was founded to give those students a new home — and to open the doors to anyone else who wants to learn. We wanted to create a space where anyone — regardless of age, fitness level, or prior experience — could continue or begin their journey in a genuine, practical martial art, in a structured and supportive environment.

Every Monday evening, we train together. Beginners stand alongside more experienced practitioners. Everyone learns, everyone teaches. No hierarchy. Just training.

Head Instructor

Jason Toms

With over a decade of dedicated training in Kali, our instructor has developed a thorough and practical understanding of the Filipino martial arts system — from its weapons-based foundations through to empty-hand applications and blade work.

He holds a Black Belt in both Filipino Martial Arts and Jun Fan Gung Fu, awarded by Neil and Rachael McLeod at the McLeod Academy in Aylesbury — a lineage that reflects a serious, structured approach to martial arts development.

His martial arts background runs deep. A 4th Dan in Taekwon-Do, he has been running a successful Taekwon-Do club for more than 16 years — bringing the same patience, structure, and commitment to Aylesbury Kali that has kept students training under him for well over a decade.

Whether you're picking up a rattan stick for the first time or refining techniques you've been working on for years, you'll be met where you are and pushed at the right pace.

What We Stand For

The Club's Principles

01

Authentic Instruction

We teach Kali as it was designed — weapons first, practical always. No watered-down versions, no sport-only focus.

02

Inclusive Environment

Rank and ego stay at the door. Everyone trains together, from first-timers to experienced martial artists.

03

Progressive Learning

Sessions are structured so beginners can follow along while more experienced students continue to develop. No one gets left behind.

04

Small Group Training

We keep numbers manageable so every student gets proper attention and feedback — not just a place in a crowd.
